We have only reviewed one Janome embroidery machine so far and even though this brand isn’t famous for the most affordable prices in the world, the Memory Craft 200E seems to be their attempt to satisfy the budget-conscious customer, looking for an almost professional experience. Whether they have delivered or not, find out in our review below.
Design and Functionality
Janome is famous for sturdy design and the Memory Craft 200E is no different – this is a stable machine that works great even at full speed. One of its strongest points is the large embroidery area, especially considering the price, so working on bigger embroidery design shouldn’t be an issue. This is a model often used by beginners, not only because of the low price, but because of ease of use.
The Memory Craft 200E is built for comfort and comes with additional features like the automatic needle threader, but automatic thread cutters and similar features are also there. Additionally, countless useful little accessories are also included.
The digital features can be a tad confusing for beginners, but after a while it’s easy to get used to them. Once you get used to them, however, they make operating this model even easier – you can simply swipe your fingers across the touch screen and effortlessly activate any feature you like.
The 5×5 embroidery area is plenty to work with and certainly more than you’d expect to get from most beginner models. The large embroidery area is always a plus, especially because the user doesn’t need to rehoop and switch things up every now and again – you can easily work on large designs with the 200E
The Memory Craft 200E comes with a carriage arm that’s meant to ensure greater stability. This is a clever little feature that significantly improves the overall user experience.
As with most embroidery machines nowadays, the USB compatibility is also there and the user can transfer downloaded or self-made designs, from their computer to the machine. Included with the 200E though, are 73 designs, which is plenty for beginners. It’s important to note that users can also access the 3 different monogramming fonts – which means you can work on different items like towels, napkins and cushion covers. Of course, you are free to purchase and download more and then transfer them via the USB.
The digital software works great and it allows the user to edit and fine tune built-in and imported designs by rotating and editing them.
The touch screen is highly intuitive and works great, and the 700KB built-in memory system can save up to 100 patterns. The user can easily access their previous information by searching it on the touchscreen – a lot of user information can be found there, such as the time you’ve worked on a certain number in the past, the size of the design, the amount of colors, required for a certain design and more.
The problem with the 200E though, is the noise it makes – although this is the only real downside of this machine, some users might consider that a deal-breaker.
Jarome have really gone out their way to produce an affordable, yet versatile embroidery machine. This is a model that every beginner will absolutely love and perhaps the perfect gift for someone who wants to get into embroidery.
